Raleigh-Durham International Airport (airport code RDU) is located about 15 miles west of Raleigh, North Carolina. The airport has two terminals, 1 and 2. Terminal 1 is a hub to both AirTran and Southwest. A brand new Terminal 2 opened in 2011 and handles the majority of airlines and passengers. Ground transportation is provided by a variety of services including public buses and trains, taxis, shuttles and rental cars. The airport serves the area known Research Triangle Park, home to more than 170 global companies such as IBM, Syngenta, Cisco and Credit Suisse. The surrounding area includes Cary, Durham and Chapel Hill, home to the University of North Carolina.
