Miami International Airport (airport code MIA) is the 2nd busiest airport for international traffic in the United States. Located just 6 miles west of downtown Miami and 10 miles from its famous beaches, Miami is a popular destination for vacationers. Operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, Miami International is the US gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. The airport has three terminals, North, Central and South with both the Central and South terminals handling international travelers. Although public transportation from MIA is spotty, taxis, shuttles and rental cars are easily obtainable. The Miami International Airport Hotel is located inside the airport at Concourse E. The airport has over 80 airlines providing flights to over 150 destinations around the world. The airport is currently being renovated and expanded to more than 7 million square feet, which is scheduled for completion in 2012.
