Faro International Airport (airport code FAO) is located in Faro, Portugal, and handles more than 6 million passengers each year. The airport is 2.6 kilometers from the center of Faro on the southernmost coast of Portugal. Taxis, buses, rental cars and hotel shuttles offer efficient transport to and from the airport. The airport's Main Terminal was enlarged in 2001 and is currently undergoing other improvements to handle increased passenger capacity. A hub for Ryanair, over 40 air carriers provide service to travelers from destinations all over Europe. Gateway to the Algarve region of southern Portugal, Faro is nearby several beach resorts and the airport is busiest from March to October.
