El Paso International Airport (airport code ELP) is located 6 miles east of downtown El Paso, Texas, in the western part of the state. Considered the gateway to West Texas and Southern New Mexico, the airport handles over 3 million passengers each year. El Paso has seven airlines providing non-stop service to eight major city hubs. The airport's two-level terminal is divided into East and West Concourses. With I-10 only 1.7 miles north, rental cars, taxis, shuttles and buses are available. Sun Metro runs a regular Airport Bus seven days a week. El Paso is home to NASA's Training Center for Shuttle Astronauts where they practice landing in simulated aircraft.
